Half art, half map, this 18"x18" print is meant to help you orient yourself for your next brewery crawl.
Inspired by the Houston Map that our designer Anthony Gorrity made for Archie's Press back in 2015. This map has been under construction since 2018. We'll make a new one annually to commemorate the explosive growth of craft in our city.
THE STORY
Archie Archambault is a designer and printer living in New York. While he was living in Portland, he got lost a lot. The best way to get un-lost is draw a map, and when he drew a circular map of Portland, Archie's Press was born. The idea unfolded into many other maps of different subjects, showing their structures in simple and intuitive ways. Everything is letterpress printed with a deep tactile impression.
Archie studied Art and Philosophy at Colorado College, Urban Design at Harvard & Advertising at Wieden+Kennedy.
SO WHY ALL THE CIRCLES?
New research indicates that GPS's are hindering our ability to create mental maps of our surroundings. My maps aim to install a "Map from the Mind", simplifying structures and neighborhoods in the most efficient and beautiful way. The circle, our Universe's softest shape, is the clearest graphic to convey size and connection.
